The Gordon Family
This family hasn't been an easy one to find. Why is it that all MY relatives kept to themselves and still want to stay hidden? Bits and pieces of this GORDON family are starting to come together, but unless some generous soul out there is researching this family and wants to work with me, it may be a long time before I find out much about my great-grandmother's family. I would certainly be happy to hear from a GORDON relative!
First Generation
John Gordon was born in Ireland in October 1831/34. He married Anne Cauley, who was born in Ireland in 1831/34. Seems like these people didn't get their ages right in the census records, since there is conflicting evidence about their ages. John emigrated from Ireland in 1855, Anne in 1852. They lived most of their married life in Willing, Allegany County, NY. In their later years they lived in Buffalo, Erie County, NY with their son Tom. Anne (or Anna) died 3 August 1920. John died 13 February 1920. Both are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York. They had the following children:

+ Thomas J. Gordon was born about 1867
William A. Gordon was born in February, 1869, and died 28 November 1916. He is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York.
Bartlet Gordon b. about 1871
Michael Gordon b. about 1873. (He may also have been known as Martin.) He was born in August 1873. He married Rose (Unknown).
Anna M. Gordon was born in 1875. She may also have been known as Celia. She died 2 April 1955 in Buffalo, NY, and is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York.
(There is a Celia Gordon, 1857-1940, buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dunkirk, NY, on the same lot as Elizabeth Gordon Coleman. Who is she?????)
Second Generation
John Andrew Gordon was born in New York in 1862. He married Katherine G. Burch. Katherine was born in Brady's Bend, PA in 1873. Katherine died in 1959. John died in 1961. Both are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. They had the following children:

Roseanna Gordon b.1906/1908 in PA.
Ruth L. Gordon b. 1910 in PA. She died in 1924, and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville, Allegany, NY.
Aroline Gordon b. about 1912 in PA. (I have spelled her name as I found it. It could very well be wrong-perhaps Caroline.)
Beatrice E. Gordon b. 4 October 1913, d. 12 March 1915. She is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY.
Bernadine F. Gordon b. 19 October 1916.
Elizabeth Barbara Gordon was born 1 May 1863 in Cattaraugus, NY. She married John Steven Coleman 2 September 1886. John was born 21 November 1857 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of David Coleman and Bridget Halpin. John died in Dunkirk 12 June 1907. Elizabeth died 31 January 1929. Both are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY. John and Elizabeth had the following children:
David Thomas Coleman b. 8 July 1887, d. 1957.
Margaret Coleman b. 28 February 1889, d. 10 August 1938.
Mary Elizabeth Coleman b. 26 April 1890, d. October 1985.
Casimer Coleman b. 28 January, 1892, d. 26 September, 1894 in Dunkirk, Chautauqua Co., NY. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dunkirk.
John Edward Coleman b. 5 June 1895, d. 10 October 1945.
Leo Gordon Coleman b. 22 June 1897, d. August 1965.
Cecilia Coleman b. 11 December 1898, d. November 1983.
Frances Joseph Coleman b. 10 March 1901 in Dunkirk, Chautauqua Co., NY, d. 1913 in Dunkirk. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dunkirk.
Helen V. Coleman b. 8 September 1903, d. 1 January, 1981. She married Elmer Scott. She then married Carl H. Guenther 16 August 1946. Carl was born 2 August 1900, and died 6 July 1967 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY. Both are buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY.

Patrick Joseph Gordon was born in August 1865 in New York. He married Anna H. (Unknown) 31 December 1899. She was born in July 1866 in Pennsylvania. Patrick died in 1931. Anna died in 1947 in Gowanda, Cattaraugus County, New York. Both are buried in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, Cattaraugus County, New York. They had the following children:
Liberatus J. Gordon b. about 1901 in Pennsylvania.
Russell J. Gordon born 10 July 1906. He married Madeleine Morley 24 July 1937. She was born 18 May 1917. Russell died 22 September 1972. Madeleine died 30 December 1980. Both are buried in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, Cattaraugus County, New York.
Thomas J. Gordon was born about 1867 in New York. He married Josephine A. Ryan. Josephine was born in 1875 in New York, and died in 1910. Tom died in 1941. Both are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York. They lived in Buffalo, NY, where they had six children, of which I know of the following:
Raymond J. Gordon was born 6 May 1900, d. September 1969.
Marie M. Gordon was born 10 December, 1902. She died 6 November 1994. She is buried with her parents in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, Erie County, New York.
Joseph V. Gordon was born 24 March 1910. He married Florence Madeline Perry. He died 4 April 1962 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York.
Third Generation
John J. Gordon, Sr. was born in Pennsylvania 20 May 1898. He married Susan K. (Unknown). Susan was born in New York in 1897. Susan died in January, 1981 in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. John died in July, 1979 in Wellsville. Both are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. They had the following children:
John J. Gordon, Jr. b. 15 June 1924 in New York, d. 23 August 1982 in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. He is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.
Robert J. Gordon b. May, 1928 in New York, d. 1984. He is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.
Arthur J. Gordon was born in Pennsylvania 25 January 1901. He married Carlotta C. (Unknown). Carlotta, whose name I also found as Charlotte, was born 8 March 1906 in New York. She died 15 February 1992 in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. Arthur died 16 March 1989. Both are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville, NY. They had the following children:

James R. Gordon b. 17 December 1926 in New York. He married Dorothy D. Easton 14 January 1949 in Genesee, PA. Dorothy was born 2 April 1931, the daughter of Daniel Easton and Eva Crum. She died 15 March 2002 in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. James died 5 July 1984 in Wellsville. Both are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.

Helen M. Gordon was born in 1901 in Pennsylvania. She married Maurice J. O'Brien. Helen died in 1987, and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY. They had the following child:
Gordon Richard O'Brien b. 8 June 1929. He died 3 March 1995, and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY.
Evangeline Gordon was born about 1904 in Pennsylvania. She married John Mayer. They had the following child:
Mary Ruth Mayer b. 5 July 1938. She married (Undisclosed) Branigan. Mary died 21 February 2000, and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville, Allegany Co., NY.
